Life's Least Expected and Most Resisted Paths
So, a great thing happened. Yesterday I posted an announcement on my Instagram page saying, "Life has a way of taking us on the least expected and most resisted paths."
What do I mean by that? Well, least expected because when I wrote my blog article on, "Tips and Tricks To Organizing Your Emails," just last week, I never expected much traction from it. Why? Because after posting it on Wednesday and checking the stats on my website the night I noticed I only had 8 readers (yes I sometimes like instant gratification). But, as disappointed as I was, I suddenly had an idea to use a graphic design I had 'parked' to create a summary version (I surmised that people don't like to read so I might as well give it to them in summary form). That was Thursday. Then the 'least expected' happened on Friday.
On Friday morning I got a message, on LinkedIn, from Television Jamaica (TVJ), asking me to be a guest on their Smile Jamaica program the following Monday, to discuss, you guessed it, my post on 'Tips & Tricks to Organizing Your Emails.' I'm laughing as I write this because, guess which version they saw...yup, the summary one.
Now, just imagine my shock, considering I had said to myself just the day before, "well I guess this is going to be your least read piece, who wants to hear about emails!" Yes those were my words to myself and yes I can be hard on myself sometimes. Anyway, back to the shock. I sat reading the message, then I screen shot it, sent it to my mom, brothers and a few friends and asked if they thought it was for real...LOL! Their response: 'so have you said yes already?' Me: 'no I'm reading it again.' Their response: 'say yes and then you can go read it as many times as you want.'
I SAID YES!
Now for the '𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵.'
In life we tend to resist the things that scare us the most. For me, being upfront, and in the 'lyme light' as we call it, scares me. I have never been one who likes doing videos, presentations, being in a crowd and being all talkative and what I call 'people friendly' etc. Yet funny enough, I was a trainer at one point and did very well at it but still didn't like it. Fast forward to me starting my website/blog and venturing more into the social media world (Instagram in particular). I never knew it would require me to face the very same things that I was most scared of and what I resisted the most. And yet here we are. So you can just imagine the roller coaster turbulence that went on inside me when the realization hit that doing this with TVJ meant actually facing that which I most resisted. Haha!
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱!
In the midst of my live presentation my internet went. I was like...seriously! My first time at facing this particular fear and getting over one of my most resisted paths AND THIS HAPPENS! Why though? Life. That's why!
I say all of this to say.
Don't feed your fears, face them.
When you put something out there or start something, don't doubt yourself.
Don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get the desired outcome. Try again.
Every disappointment is an appointment.
Everything in God's timing.
THANK YOU TO:
Kerry-Ann for selecting my piece and accommodating my overly excited self.
Simone, the consummate host, who made me less nervous and who expertly presented my piece when technical difficulties arose.
Television Jamaica (TVJ) for having me and providing such a great exposure.
My internet service provider who wonderfully drowned by service at that given time and so shortened my appearance, but who has now given me an opportunity to re-create and re-share this article in a different way.
